
Drive an LGV before you’re 21 – register on the
Young Driver’s Scheme through RTT.
RTT
Training is an approved Training Provider for the Young Driver’s
Scheme with Skills for Logistics, the governing body who operates
the programme. Visit their web site for more details here
and click on Training Information and then YDS service.
A young person under 20 can register on the
scheme, obtain a Category C LGV licence and an NVQ in Driving
Goods Vehicles Level 2.
Basic rules are that they must be:
- employed
- from a company which operates Category C vehicles
- willing to achieve the NVQ
- prepared to be assessed for 6 months after they have passed
their test

RTT Training is registered with OCR
and City & Guilds as a Centre to offer NVQs.
NVQs give you a qualification whilst at work
– RTT Training are able to offer Level 2 and Level 3
NVQs in Driving Goods Vehicles, Traffic Office, Storage and
Warehousing, Administration and Customer Service.
An NVQ is a portfolio of work showing how you
practically carry out your daily routines. It is achieved
by submitting evidence to show that you have the competence
in certain unit areas. You are assessed in the workplace and
guided through each stage. Your own assessor assists you to
build your portfolio, which is then submitted to achieve the
qualification. In general the process takes between 6-9 months
to complete.
